RLM

We have many people ask us how we met. Online! I was always working and lived/worked in the Raleigh/Durham area and needed to see what was outside my small scope (the mall). He was just getting out of the Military and wanted to see what was beyond Fayetteville. Neither one of us do the bar scene. Nor were we getting anywhere with a friend of a friend, and didn’t have time to knock on everyone’s door like an encyclopedia salesman. (let’s see who get’s that!) So online it was and in 2013 we met.

You would think that retiring from service Rodney would kick up his feet, grow a beard and a beer belly. (Part of that is true! LOL). After he got through a short time of kicking up his feet and growing a beer belly, he did decide to start the second half of his life. He did a body detox which led to him becoming a vegetarian and went back to school for medicine (short lived because of his PTSD). He did learn a lot and met some people that did impact his life. As he was trying to make a decision about college, he was reintroduced to the thought of beekeeping. After pondering for awhile, I pushed him to take a break from school and take the beekeeping class. This became the beginning of our honey journey.

After working for 20+ year as a manager for other companies and doing my cakes/food for my friends/coworkers, Rodney pushed me to take a big leap and start focusing on my business. So I took a break and started my catering business (dreaming of a food truck). Since Rodney was learning more about bees/mother nature it was natural that we starting merging these two together (as did we). Learning the nature of bees and honey, the natural medicinal properties of things that come from the earth, and how all of that marries together with what we do in the kitchen has been amazing. We love that our creations have helped inspire you in the kitchen and helped naturally boost your health.

What you now know as Beehive Yourself has been (what Rodney calls) an organic journey. Being true (selfless, humble, and grateful) to ourselves and others is what has led us down this organic journey. Doing what is in our hearts for and with people to make a difference and trying to help tighten the small business/ sustainable community. This organic journey is not a straight path, but it has lead to many open and closed doors. We always go through those open doors and see where they lead, because you never know where they might lead. We think this way with our own relationship. We had wanted (needed in my mind) to get married for a while. We had both his boys staying with us and decided it felt right on a Sunday to get married that Friday (Good Friday). My best friend got ordained online and took our thoughts to write our vows in 4 days. We had two sets of friends provide two venues (had to change from an outside garden to a charming chapel because of a random tornado/storm). We had a small group of friends watch/witness our union. A good friend created our wedding ring set. This is all a reflection of our organic journey that we are blessed in walking together and with all of you. So April 19, 2019 we became RLM……. Rodney L. Medley & Rebekah L. Medley. We can’t wait to see where all of this takes us next.
